EMPLOYMENT
Grounds Manager November 2011 – Present
Trinity International University, Deerfield, IL
I began in the role of part-time maintenance in 2011, primarily in electrical and lighting, working across all areas. In 2014, I moved to a full-time groundskeeper position, then to Lead Groundskeeper in 2016, and then to Grounds Manager in 2019. I oversee contracts, including tree removal, refuse removal, and mowing. I am responsible for planning and executing landscaping projects and managing plants. I am responsible for snow management. I have worked as part of the broader Facility Services department in the leadership team.
Additionally, I oversee the implementation of the “Trinity Food-Drop” (Food Pantry), with a volunteer staff composed of international students or their spouses, serving as the food bank distribution for the student body. I manage a crew consisting of full-time and part-time staff in campus maintenance and beautification. This provides opportunities for biblical and theological discussions and those concerning daily life.
Hospital Chapel Leader September 2011 – March 2020
Advocate Condell Medical Center, Libertyville, IL
I served as the coordinator for the Sunday Morning service, arranging speakers, musicians, and individuals to give the invocations and benediction. I served as the primary speaker, preaching in 30 –35 services each year. When not preaching, I provided the invocation and benediction for other preachers and often the special music. I spoke with visitors as opportunities provided. I also operated the equipment to record the services, which were then rebroadcast on the hospital’s television system. This position ended with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Conversations ensued for a couple of years following the easing of protocols in May of 2023, but nothing came of it, and the ministry never restarted. This was a volunteer ministry position.
Director of Campus Safety and Security Services December 1999 – March 2009
Trinity International University, Deerfield, IL
I began working in the Security department as a part-time officer in 1989. I moved into the full-time Lead Officer position in 1993. In this position, I oversaw training new officers and the university’s parking program. I was then promoted to Director in 1999. I oversaw a team of more than 20 staff members, including full-time, part-time, and support staff. This team was one of the most diverse departments on campus, both ethnically and academically. As a team, we ensured the safety of the physical campus and everyone on it. Additionally, we responded to the campus community’s needs, from simple assistance, such as unlocking a door, to serving as the first responders to medical, fire, and police emergencies. I served as the primary campus liaison with these civil authorities, working directly with the Bannockburn Chief of Police and the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Prevention Bureau. I oversaw and negotiated the campus-wide fire alarm maintenance contract for 32 buildings. I served as chair of the university’s Safety Committee, developing and implementing policies ranging from office ergonomics to disaster and active shooter responses. I served on the Institutional and Auxiliary Services management team, alongside other department heads, including Grounds, Maintenance, Custodial, Housing, Event Services, Mail Room, and Dining Services. I served on the university’s Commencement Committee working to ensure a smooth event each year. During this time, I also had the opportunity to impact students’ lives, especially those who worked for me, many of whom were preparing for ministry themselves.
